Yalmakany Marawili is an artist from North East Arnhem Land, born into a distinguished lineage of cultural leaders and artists. She is the daughter of celebrated senior artist Mrs M Wirrpanda and legendary Madarrpa leader Wakuthi Marawili and sister to celebrated artist Djambawa Marawili AM. Since settling in Yirrkala in 2022, she has dedicated herself to painting full-time at Buku-Larrŋgay Mulka Art Centre, drawing on her deep cultural knowledge to depict the saltwater estates and bush resources of her Country. Her works combine intricate detail and vibrant expression to celebrate Yolŋu knowledge systems. Recognised for her artistry, Yalmakany’s work was selected for the 2023 NATSIAA Awards and has been shown in the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory.
