Del Kathryn Barton’s intricate and vibrant paintings explore the symbolic language of femininity, interweaving references to folklore and the cosmos. Her practice is deeply self-referential, drawing from an intensely personal and emotional interior world. In this new suite of paintings, female figures dominate, reinforcing Barton’s ongoing engagement with the woman as a universal protagonist – both subject and witness within her compositions.
As line and brushstroke take precedence over narrative, these works offer a visceral insight into the artist’s emotional and creative psyche.
