Del Kathryn Barton’s intricate and vibrant paintings explore the symbolic language of femininity, interweaving references to folklore and the cosmos. Her practice is deeply self-referential, drawing from an intensely personal and emotional interior world. In this new suite of paintings, female figures dominate, reinforcing Barton’s ongoing engagement with the woman as a universal protagonist – both subject and witness within her compositions.

As line and brushstroke take precedence over narrative, these works offer a visceral insight into the artist’s emotional and creative psyche. Figures emerge through layered brushstrokes and meticulous linework, evoking an expressive tension between control and spontaneity. Themes of loss and transformation resonate throughout, yet, like all of Barton’s work, they bubble with the boundless energy and magic that make her paintings so remarkable.
