Currently on display the MCA Australia as part of 'Artists in Focus', a dynamic new display that illuminates histories, trajectories and highlights of the MCA’s Collection, David Noonan's 16mm film 'Mnemosyne' reflects the artist's interest in liminal states and in-between spaces. It features a mesmerising sequence of images that unfold unpredictably, mirroring the nature of memories. A hypnotic soundtrack made in collaboration with the musician and composer Warren Ellis reinforces the heightened poetic atmosphere. Noonan's early silent film 'Owl', also on display, has a similarly haunting quality. As with many of Noonan's works, meanings are withheld in these two films, leaving space for the viewer to form their own associations.
