LES MIDIKURIA

Currently practicing full time as an artist, Les Midikuria lives and works at Gochan Jiny-Jirra Outstation near Maningrida. His subject matter, he learned from his father and grandfather (both deceased), and he was guided in his sense of aesthetics and technique by his older brother, well known artist Jack Kala Kala (now deceased).

In 1992 he travelled to Japan for two weeks as songman and leader of eight dance performers accompanying an Australia-wide exhibition of Aboriginal Art, at the National Museum of Ethnology, Osaka. While he was there he designed, painted and directed other Aboriginal artists in the painting to completion of a large mural now permanently installed at the N.M.E.
