Destiny Deacon is one of Australia’s boldest and most acclaimed contemporary artists. In the largest retrospective of her work to date, DESTINY features works spanning 30 years of Deacon's career at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. This exhibition features more than 100 multi-disciplinary works by Deacon and her longtime collaborator, artist Virginia Fraser. DESTINY offers a nuanced, thoughtful and, at times, intensely funny snapshot of contemporary Australian life and reminds us that ‘serious’ art can also have a sense of humour.
As the NGV is currently closed to the public, it is our pleasure to introduce you to the Curator of Indigenous Art, Myles Russell-Cook, who has guest-curated a selection of ten images from the exhibition. The works selected highlight the thematic variety of the show, with particular reference to the themes of reflection, isolation, and connection — concepts which now, rather poignantly, feel more relevant than ever before.
We look forward to sharing new exhibition dates with you in due course and in the meantime, we hope that you enjoy a teaser of the exhibition via our Viewing Room.
