Australian-born artist of South African and Mauritian descent, Newell Harry works in a variety of media, including drawing, sculpture, photography and installation. His contemporary practice investigates deeply situated cultures, histories, communities and individuals through the exploration of language, identity, imperialism, religion and the impact of globalisation and globalised cultures in and around the Pacific.
Drawn from diverse travels and time periods, spanning twelve years, Untitled (Black Sabbath and other Anecdotes), 2015 belongs to a body of work titled, Known/Unknowns, 2017. This series is the result of investigations that have been assembled to explore the gap between things - the lost and found, the known and unknown, and a will to give prominence to the overlooked and undervalued.
